Randy Crawford, une des voix les plus iconiques du répertoire soul/jazz, est à l’honneur dans un nouveau coffret 3-CDs regroupant ses enregistrements pour le label Warner.
You Might Need Somebody – The Warner Bros. Recordings propose 57 titres enregistrés entre 1976 et 1996. Cette anthologie se divise en trois thèmes : sous-titré Rain, le premier CD comprend 20 sélections R&B, jazz et blues avec ses reprises des Eagles (« Desperado »), Jerry Butler (« I Stand Accused »), « When Your Life Was Low » et « One Day I’ll Fly Away » co-écrits par Joe Sample et Will Jennings.
Dédié aux ballades, le deuxième disque intitulé Romance aligne, entre autres, « Now We May Begin », « I’m Under The Influence of You », « Endlessly », sa reprise du duo Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell « Your Precious Love » avec Al Jarreau, deux pépites de Leon Russell, « Windsong », « Time for Love », et sa relecture d' »Imagine » de John Lennon. Enfin, le CD3 Razzamajazz regroupe les grands classiques de Randy Crawford, parmi lesquels « Street Life » en compagnie des Crusaders et l’incontournable « You Might Need Somebody ».
Randy Crawford: You Might Need Somebody – The Warner Bros. Recordings 1976-1993 est complété par un livret rédigé par A. Scott Galloway incluant de nouveaux entretiens avec Randy Crawford, Joe Sample, Nicklas Sample, Russell Ferrante, Steve Lukather et James Gadson. Ce coffret triple-CD sera disponible le 17 mars via Soulmusic Records/Cherry Red.
